Scenario |
|
|
As
more and more people began to immigrate to the United States, there
became a need for more land and better opportunities. Many people
decided to risk what they had for a chance at a new life on the Western
front. What would persuade someone to give up all they had for the
unknown? What opportunities were perceived and what were the risks?
Your group will be looking at primary sources and various web sites
in your search to understand the thoughts of the pioneers of the west.

The
American History magazine, as part of a special issue on turning points
in United States history, as asked your research team to create a
four-page magazine spread on westward expansion. Your group will each
research a different aspect of the western expansion. The magazine
has asked your team to have a reporter, scientist, correspondent,
historian, and photographer/cartographer. Each member should use the
link in the Resources section to read their job description and find
useful web sites. |
