A Kindergarten unit on the Rainforest turned into an expeditionary adventure when students wanted to retell the story The Great Kapok Tree. Kindergartners explored the world of theatre learning about the jobs and responsibilities involved in producing a play. Students worked in small groups taking on the roles of producers, directors, scenery designers, costume designers, playbill writers, script writers and sound effect designers. Over the course of several weeks, students worked with various teachers who served as "experts" on an aspect of theatrical productions. Using all of the knowledge acquired, students wrote and produced their own version of The Great Kapok Tree using the DoInk app and The Studio, our green screen recording studio. A premier was held to share the students' efforts and expedition with faculty.
