Pop In Schools

Scenario

You are visiting with a friend from another school and begin discussing how your school is different from their school. During the conversation you learn that your friend's school has vending machines in the cafeteria and outside the gym. You start wondering why there are none at Giles. You ask yourself, "Should Giles sell pop to students?" After thinking about it a while, you decide to look into the advantages and disadvantages of having vending machines in schools.
Task

Your task is to identify advantages and disadvantages of selling pop to students. Start with the questions below to help identify your postition and supporting reasons.

  • Does a school benefit from the sale of pop? If so, how?
  • How does pop affect a student's school performance?
  • What is the affect of pop on a person's health?
  • How do other schools deal with the sale of pop?

Now that you have learned more about pop and its affects, you must decide whether schools should provide vending machines for students. You will need to type a one page essay stating your point of view and supporting your opinion with facts. Your essay should include a bibilography (citations for all sources used).

After writing your essay, you will need to create a poster or flyer presenting your point of view.
